Try these calculations:

Light can penetrate the ocean to a depth of 200 m (meters).
If you want to know how many feet that is, type the following in the Entisoft conversion calculator:

Let's relate that to the length of a football field.  Type the following:
Convert From: football field (no numbers necessary because football field is in their database!)
Convert To:  feet
Press Convert it
(then press Continue as before)

How many football fields would be lit up (by the light penetrating the ocean) if the fields were
end-to-end vertically from the surface down into the ocean?

Since there are no absolutes - we could not calculate how far light would penetrate IF there was an oil spill in that part of the ocean or even far away if the oil was carried by the currents to that point, because the oil particles would scatter the light or block it from penetrating through the water.   We could not calculate how many plants, animals, and ocean and shore habitats would die - maybe even those on the Endangered Species lists that were near extinction.  We could not calculate how many years the damage would continue to destroy life.

Another exercise for you Earthlings:  In the Convert To box, type: earth to moon (nothing else)

Then convert the meters to miles if you wish
