TRANSFORM YOUR YARD
INTO A WILDLIFE HABITAT

National Wildlife Federation - Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat

Create a wildlife-friendly yard - then make it official by getting it certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat!  A Backyard Wildlife Habitat site provides wildlife with the four basic elements needed for survival; food, water, cover and places to raise young.  Once you receive your certification, you will be eligible for some great benefits provided by NWF.

Wildbirds Unlimited

Click on Topics for information on various species and the importance of wildlife in the environment.  Start your habitat with a plan.  Download a landscaping planning chart that fits the region where you live.  Consult local nurseries and landscaping consultants, to help you avoid planting non-native species.  Exotic and non-native species can overtake native species and cause a lot of harm to an area.  (See our Invasive and Non-Native Species page).  Educational brochures are also available on Wildbirds Unlimited and available for downloading.

What you can do in your backyard to save biodiversity

Parents can set a good example for their children by showing them conservation can start right in their own backyard.  (Conservation International)
